Well cut diamonds make light perform in breathtaking ways, creating the romantic display of a diamonds most sought after attributes: fire, brilliance, and scintillation.
Diamonds with good proportions, symmetry,and polish are the factors of a good to excellent cut. They make better use of light, and will be fiery, bright and sparkling. The cut of a diamond effects how light reacts with a diamond. When light reflects off the surface you see a flash of white light, which is part of the diamond's brilliance.When light enters the diamond it is bent or refracted. If the diamond is cut correctly, the light strikes the interior surfaces until it finally exits out the top facets. Some of this light exits as bright white light, adding to the diamonds brilliance. Some of the light rays are divided into flashes of color known as fire. A diamonds fire is the result of dispersion: the separation of white light into its component spectral colors. Scintillation describes the flashes of light seen when the light, diamond, or observer moves.
If light enters a poorly proportioned diamond, it might exit through the pavilion or lower part of the diamond instead, making the diamond look darker, or slightly less attractive. We do not sell inferior cut diamonds.

Diamonds are graded by color according to their relationship to "colorless" according to rules set by the diamond industry. Colorless diamonds are very rare. The diamond color scale starts a D = colorless, to Z = a light yellow or brown. Diamonds in the G - J range are considered to be near colorless.
